” … let us go forth to lead the land we love asking His blessing and His help but knowing that here on earth God’s work must truly be our own. The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it and the glow from that fire can truly light the world.”
John F. Kennedy
It’s the fourth of July. For the last few days I’ve heard the muffled sounds of big fire works in the distance. Every year when I hear those sounds, I’m reminded of the fight for freedom everywhere. A couple of years ago, on July 4th I was getting on a plane to go speak in Nashville and in the back of my head, I hoped terrorists hadn’t decided to bomb a planeful of people going anywhere … in an effort to stop the truth and freedom that we represent. I think the “fire that can truly light the world,” is the fire of freedom — the freedom of peace and service to our fellow man. In fact, it is only through service … to the poor, to the weak, to the downtrodden, to those enslaved and oppressed by evil will our own light and that of our country shine. Our country is made up of individuals who are willing to expend their energy and time for the principles of truth and freedom for men and women and children everywhere. We should be proud of that and be even more determined to shine that light of hope wherever we can — in our own lives and all around the world. This truth we know, we are all called to share.
And today, in the middle of divorce, let’s embrace the independence that is a result of our divorce. Even though we didn’t want our marriage to end this way, and even though we did everything we could to preserve our marriage, our marriage ended. With it comes a certain freedom that we’re not sure we want at this point. But the truth is, if you were in a marriage that was not good for you, your divorce will give you a chance to be free to live the live you deserve. The adjustment to independence takes time, but you’ll see that you can embrace that freedom and fully be the woman you were created to be. Celebrate that today!
Happy Fourth of July!
“If you stick with this, living out what I tell you, you are my disciples for sure. Then you will experience for yourselves the truth and the truth will free you.”
