“‘Then the prophecies of the old songs have turned out to be true!’ said Bilbo. ‘Of course,’ said Gandalf. ‘You don’t really suppose, do you that all of your adventures and escapes were managed by pure luck, just for your sole benefit?'” ~ J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit

Go Adventuring

I love The Hobbit. Bilbo Baggins’ story begins with his simple, quiet and very comfortable life in his little hobbit hole. But before he knows it, his world gets turned upside down and he is called to “go adventuring.”

After The Divorce

I believe God leads each of us on our own great adventure. I kept the vision of Bilbo Baggins in my head while I was going through my divorce. Often, we want to stay in our safe, familiar, comfortable little hobbit hole. The world with it’s challenges is often frightening and full of ugly and dangerous dragons to face.

But I firmly believe we are in this great battle for God’s purposes. We are each called to do our small, but vital part in the big story.

When I was married I knew what my part was, and I did that part well. I am still a mother, grandmother and professional, but now I am being called to a different role, too. Not because I didn’t do my last job well, but because God fulfilled His purpose for me, and now I’m being used for something else.

God’s Perfect Plan

God doesn’t cause the catastrophes and challenges of life, but He uses them and guides us through them. Isn’t it amazingly exciting the He uses YOU AND I to fulfill His eternal purposes?

Every single day, I am part of the bigger picture of God’s plan. The question is, am I going to answer the call to go adventuring? What is He calling you to, today?

“For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” ~ Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
