“Life is filled with people trying to get you down in the same hole that they’re in. (They) may try to rob you of your integrity, your passion, your reputation, your spirit, your cosmic purpose. They’re no better than the Wicked Witch of the West trying to steal Dorothy’s ruby slippers. But they can never get those ruby slippers off your feet — unless you let them.” The Zen of Oz by Joey Green
“Never let those Ruby slippers off your feet!” Whether someone else is trying to get you down their hole of bad behavior or selfishness or dishonesty or hatefulness … you do not have to go there! Each of us makes our own daily decisions about our life. We can choose to live on our higher plane of truth and goodness or we can let small, weak, shallow people pull us down to where they are. But as long as we keep on the “ruby slippers” of our own integrity and God’s power, nothing and no-one can really harm us. They can make things difficult; they can create challenges; but conquering those things in the long run makes us stronger. Nothing in this midlife divorce you’re going through can make you take those ruby slippers off … you have to let them go on your own. Don’t do it!
“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, neither angels, nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)
