“Someone called my inspiration phone line and left this message: ‘STOP WORKING ON YOURSELF,’ and simply luxuriate in where you are right now, just as you are.'”
Fixing Ourselves
I think we can all get caught up with fixing ourselves. We try to figure out what we did wrong and fix it. I received a phone call from the Dr. Oz show inquiring about midlife women who had bought a plastic surgery package after divorce. Okay, admit it! Who of us hasn’t looked in the mirror and tried to see what we would look like by stretching our faces back like a super face lift?
We are always working on our bodies. We work on getting our finances in order. We work on being cheerful, independent and strong, and forgiving all at the same time. We try and fix ourselves to be the kind of woman we are “supposed to be.” Our self-improvement lists can be endless.
Just Be
Today, lets all take a break from our list. Let’s be content with ourselves, exactly the way we are. The Bible tells us that God’s Spirit in us is constantly working on our behalf. God delights in refining us and giving us good gifts. We don’t have to work unceasingly for them. So let’s take encouragement from that, and stop working so hard on ourselves. Just be. The fruits of the Spirit will show up on their own.
“But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard–things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity.” ~ Galatians 5:22 (The Message)
