Tip #90. Get a great haircut.
Save up your money and go to a swanky hair salon and get a haircut. Tell the stylist to do what he or she thinks will look best on you. Maybe you could take some pictures of things you like. Or let the stylist have total free reign like on What Not to Wear. Wouldn’t it be fun to have that guy cut your hair? He always seems to know exactly what will look best on the women on that show. And they usually say, “Go for it!” Let’s say that to ourselves!
Sometimes we get stuck in our own personal style traps. I’m sure you’ve seen older women who have had the same hairdo for decades! Since everything else in your life is undergoing a total transformation, try a new hairstyle or a new color. Be a little wild! Don’t let other people or tradition or fear make you stay in a place you don’t want to be … either in relationships or in hairstyles or in any other part of your life.
Being a little edgy will give you courage. What if you hate the haircut? So what?! It will grow back. Have fun! Be adventurous! Laugh about it. We need to all quit being so predictable and so nervous about stuff. Are we going to tiptoe around trying to please everyone else? Let’s please ourselves for a change. Let’s try something completely new! Start with your own hair! Send me some before and after pictures. – suzy@midlifedivorcerecovery.com
